USEFUL STUFF I LOVE & RECOMMEND
One of the biggest global hosting companies, these guys can provide you with a domain name and host your website too. Their prices are reasonable and a https security certificate is included as standard.
External hard drives can and will let you down so it's vital you back up your computer in at least two different ways. I use these guys to back up my laptop but there are plenty of good companies out there.
I work 100% in the cloud now and, although you could use OneDrive, I use Google Drive to store all my data. I pay £18 a year for 100GB of storage which is more than enough to save all my photos and documents.
This is another online storage platform but it's much more expensive than Drive or OneDrive. A lot of your clients will use this to share documents with you so you should really know how it works though.
This is an absolutely incredible free and secure online system that keeps all your (and your clients) passwords safe. I use this every single day and would be completely lost without it. This is a must for every VA.
1ty.me is free and provides one-time self-destructing links so you can safely share sensitive information. This is the perfect way for clients to give you login details instead of sending them via email or instant message.
This is a free email signature generator. You choose from 6 elegant templates then add your contact and business info. You can customise each aspect. add your logo and even your social media profiles if you like.
Loom is a brilliant Chrome extension where you can record just your computer screen, just yourself, or both together. You then simply download the video or share the link. I also use Awesome Screenshot.
This is the best payment platform for taking payments from overseas clients. It's regulated by the US Financial Crimes Enforcement Network and is backed by Barclays in the UK and Wells fargo in the US.
WeTransfer is the best way to safely send large files to clients. It's completely free and is perfect for when you need to email an attachment or a video but the file size is too big to go as an attachment.
You're going to need a website to promote your shiny new business and, if learning WordPress is a step too far for you, then Wix is definitely the next best option. Just make sure you go for the premium plan!
Hootsuite is a fantastic social media management platform that lets you create and schedule content to a variety of different accounts. VAs often use this one to schedule client updates as well as their own.
I use this to schedule one-off social media content that I come across online. The pro version lets you queue more content but the free one is still fine. Get this if you want to post or schedule on the fly.
Stop wasting time constantly uploading posts and use an evergreen social media scheduler instead. A platform like this is one of the very first things I suggest you invest in. (SmarterQueue is also good.)
This is probably the most popular time tracker out there and the free version will be fine for your needs. You simply punch in and out when you start and stop work then send the time report to your client.
This is probably the best book on pricing I've ever read. It has loads of real-life case studies (one is even a VA!), exercises to complete and a billion quick and simple ideas on how to make more money.
I am not exaggerating when I say this book has completely revolutionised the way I run my life. I re-read it every year and I apply the principles to literally everything I do and every big decision I make.
My YouTube channel has loads of tips, training, walk-throughs, live Q&A sessions, interviews with new VAs and lots of other useful business stuff I think you'll find valuable. Feel free to subscribe as well!
This is a fantastic video on how women deal with money and sell stuff. Men just ask for money whereas women want to give everything away for free! Definitely worth a watch if you find money a difficult subject.
This is one of the most poignant videos I've ever seen. If you think you have plenty of time to do all the things you want to do, then think again because I'm sorry to tell you that it's later than you think.
