I’m attending the UK VA Conference and Awards (co-locating with the Office Show) at London Olympia on Thursday 1st March, and I’d love to meet you if you’re attending. I’m part of a 45 minute panel talk at 10.15am called ‘Surviving with Support Networks’ but I’ll be around until 4pm if you’d like a coffee and a chat. Here’s some more info about the event:
What’s the event about?
The UK VA conference and awards takes place on Thursday 1st March 2018 at Olympia in London. It’s co-locating with the Office Show, so the day before (the 28th Feb) will be for PAs and the 1st will focus on all things VA.
The show is a really popular event in the admin/VA calendar and covers things such as career and skills development, management and leadership and a host of other things.
What sorts of things will it cover?
Oh man, LOADS of things!
PA Day – Wed 28th Feb
There will be sessions covering a multitude of subjects including body language, Outlook, communication skills, minute taking, problem solving, how to overcome stress in the workplace, emotional intelligence, HR event organisation, networking and building relationships.
VA Day – Thurs 1st March
The theme for the VA day this year is Reach New Heights as a Virtual Assistant, and there are loads of learning and development sessions aimed at helping you become a better VA.
These include info on: GDPR (the new data protection regulations that come into force in May – I have a blog post on GDPR and what it means for VAs here), How to grow your VA business and social media strategy.
Some award-winning VAs are sharing the impact that winning an award had on their business, and there will also be announcements and presentations which include the PA-Assist Members Voice Award for Best VA Training Provider (I’ve been nominated in this category apparently!), UK Best Newcomer VA 2018, and Outstanding VA 2018.
I’m actually on the panel of judges for the 2018-2019 UK VA Awards but am obviously not allowed to vote in my category.
This is pretty exciting and it was definitely an honour to be asked to be on the panel, but rest assured there will be no favouritism. There are many judges and we’re not allowed to assess any VA to whom we have a close connection.
Where I’ll be and when:
As mentioned, I’m going to be on the 10.15am panel called ‘Surviving with Support Networks’. I’ll then probably settle down in the ‘Networking Area’ at noon, attend the awards at 2.30pm and then leave for Brighton around 4pm ish.
I’ll update the Facebook event so you know where I am and what I’m wearing. You can also message me on Facebook if you can’t find me.
I’ve attended the event for the last two years so I can meet some of you, and I have to say it’s really rather fun. It’s wonderful to put faces to profile pictures and I really like hearing your stories and how you’re finding freelance life.

- RSVP to the event in the VA Handbookers Facebook group and stay updated on my movements on the day.
