USEFUL STUFF I LOVE & RECOMMEND
One of the biggest global hosting companies, these guys can provide you with a domain name and host your website as well. Their prices are standard and they also have a pretty good reputation.
It’s essential to back up your computer. I pay £4.99 a month for a ton of storage and back up my entire laptop into the cloud. Whatever you use make sure it’s reliable because your external hard drive WILL fail you!
This is the email provider I use to send out my newsletters. I tried a ton before settling on this one and the ability to set automation rules and labels is invaluable. It's the industry leader by far in my opinion.
If you want a quick and easy website without a steep learning curve then look no further. It's an easy drag n drop format, they have loads of templates and you can get a VA website up in just a few hours.
Online storage and a great way to collaborate remotely. A lot of your clients will use this so you should really know how it works. I also upload a scan of my passport and insurance docs for when I'm travelling.
Whatever invoicing system you go for, make sure it’s ultra professional. I use the free version because it’s simple, easy to use and has a clean interface. You can also pay to have the branding removed if you like.
I use this to schedule content to post on social media so I'm not online all day and to cover me when I go away. I have the pro version for more features but the the free one is still great. I’d be lost without this actually!
This is a lovely little RSS reader that I use to aggregate new posts from websites I follow. I then use Buffer to schedule interesting content to go out on social media so I don't have to spend all day online.
This is an absolutley incredible free and secure online system that keeps all your (and your clients) passwords safe. I use this every single day and would be completely lost without it. This is a must for any VA.
This is a free phone app that lets you scan documents, turn them into PDFs and then email them straight from your phone. I use this a lot for myself as well as when I want to scan post and email it to a client.
I'm not too sure what we all did before Canva came along! It's basically a free / cheap way to create gorgeous designs from social media graphics to business cards and blog header images. It's awesome.
This book doesn't teach you how to start a business but it does show you how to take your existing business and your family on the road. It has loads of advice as well as 13 real life case study interviews.
I set up my business within a week of reading this book. A little cheesy in places, it’s really inspirational and I still dip in and out of it. It's absolutely awesome and I can’t recommend it highly enough.
This (very famous) book changed my life and I know it will change yours. The title is a little misleading but it definitely shows you how to create the kind of free living lifestyle you want. This is my bible.
This is a fantastic guide to safeguarding your digital life and making sure you're safe online. It also has tons of ways to protect your data including how to safely use cloud storage like Dropbox and Google Drive.
Scanners are people who can't seem to commit to one line of work and always have hundreds of projects on the go. Being a VA is perfect for Scanners as the work is so varied - reading this book was like being diagnosed!
My YouTube channel has loads of tips, trainin, walk-throughs, live Q&A sessions, interviews with new VAs and lots of other useful business stuff I think you'll find interesting. Why not subscribe while you're there!
This is a fantastic video on how women deal with money and sell stuff. Men just ask for money whereas women want to give everything away for free! Definitely worth a watch if you find money a difficult subject.
I love Casey Neistat and this is one of the most inspirational videos I've ever seen. It totally matches the way I see life and the way I want to live it - I especially like the bit about risk 4 mins in.
