LinkedIn message templates for Virtual Assistants

Ever been on LinkedIn and want to connect with someone but don’t know what to say? Or maybe you’ve already connected but you don’t know how to continue the conversation. Perhaps someone has requested to connect with you, but you want to know why before accepting. Don’t worry, because I have three templates that completely eliminate the weird awkwardness that is LinkedIn messaging!

Example ‘why do you want to connect?’ message

This is a useful message for when you receive a request to connect but the other person hasn’t personalised it and it isn’t immediately obvious why they want to link with you.

Thank you for your invitation to connect.

I don’t believe we have met in person or on other social media platforms before (forgive me if we have!)

I am very much open to connecting with people I haven’t met and who are willing to build a relationship so I would love to know what it is about my profile that interested you and how you hope we might both benefit from the connection.

Example ‘thank you for connecting’ message

Sometimes people ask you to connect and then you both just ignore each other (I’m guilty of this myself). But sending this message should hopefully start a conversation.

I used this one for the first time recently and the person messaged me straight back to say they’d just signed up to my mailing list and then they told me where I could find them on Twitter. So it works.

Hi xxx,

Thanks for your invitation. I am delighted to connect with you.

If you haven’t already done so, please take a look at my website (URL) to see what types of services I provide and don’t hesitate to let me know if there’s anything I can do to assist you.

Is there anywhere else online I should also connect with you?

(Your name)
(Your Twitter/Facebook URL if you like)

Obviously, tailor the bit in the middle to reflect what you’d like them to do.

Example ‘I’d like to connect with you’ message

When you see that a user has viewed your profile but they haven’t requested to connect with you, check out their profile and if you think they’d be a useful contact, send them a connection request instead.

Hi xxx

I see that you have looked at my profile recently. (As a fellow Virtual Assistant – write whatever reason you want here!), it would be great to get to know you better and I would be delighted if you were to connect with me on LinkedIn.

Again, tailor the middle section to reflect who you are to each other or just leave out the Virtual Assistant bit and ask what it was about your profile that interested them.

Create a standout LinkedIn profile.

Hi Julie, No, I don’t have the Premium version and have never paid for it. It can sometimes come in handy if you want to contact a lot of people in one month but you can sign up to the free trial for that – make sure you cancel it before the month is out though! I’ve found the free version completely adequate for my needs. x

Thanks Joanne, really helpful. I’d much rather use personalised messages but struggled to do it, so the templates are great. Thanks again
